Stainless Backplate Conversion Kit
At long last, the CCR Dolphin backplate conversion
kit. Below find pictures and assembly
instructions. Version one is if you are
using the standard Drager tank mounted under the rebreather. Version two is if you are using side mount
tanks. The kit is the same, but the
assembly is different. This kit allows
the use of any standard bc
or backplate that uses 11 inch centers.
You may, of course re-drill the plate for any non standard mounting, or
to change the balance.
The bracket weighs about 5.5 lbs.
Here are the parts that come with the kit.

Both Versions.
Begin by completely disassembling your rebreather so
you have a bare shell.

Next fit the two tabs into the slots at the top of the
shell, positioned so the tabs are facing down.

Drill the two bottom holes out with a 3/8 inch drill, make sure you are drilling straight down.

The following is Version one and is for use of the
drager stock tank. If you are using side
mounts skip down to Version two.
Take the two long 5/16 x 18 bolts
and slide washers onto them and place them into the cutouts on the plastic
spacer.

Set the spacer and bolts up though the back side of
the shell, so that the bolts aim slightly forward.

Place a washer and nut over each bolt and tighten them
up. These nuts are nyloks
so its important to lightly lubricate the bolts (wd40
works well) and turn the nuts down slowly (no power tools here, it will cause
the stainless to gall and freeze up), then put a second nut down about half
way, this is your spacer. If you need
more loop and counterlung capacity, space this out farther.

Slide the plate into the slots and set the rear holes
down over the bolts.

Wing nuts complete the bracket attachment.

Now attach the bladder and harness to the
bracket. Place the shorter bolts through
the bracket, if you lay the top over a table edge it will hold the top bolt in
place.

Lay the bladder down on the plate, lining up the bolts
and holes.

Next the backplate or harness system. Wing nut the parts together.

Now take the whole assembly and clip the top tabs into
the shell.

Next lay the back holes onto the bolts and attach wingnuts, this completes the job.

Version two.
Use this method if you are side mounting your tanks. Place washers over the two long bolts and put
them through the bracket from the top side and then through the plastic
spacer. In the below picture the tabs
are pointing up.

Place a washer and two nuts on the bolts, the second
nut is the spacer.

Slide the tabs into the slots and align the bolts into
the holes and wing nut it in place. See
version one for details on mounting the bladder and harness to the bracket.
